WASHINGTON, DC -- Following is a statement from Change to Win chair Anna Burger on the results of the March 4 primary elections in Ohio, Texas, Vermont and Rhode Island.
"The aggressive education and mobilization efforts of the Change to Win unions in yesterday's key primary election states played a crucial role in turning out union members in support of Sen. Barack Obama. Change to Win members closed the gap on the double-digit lead Sen. Hillary Clinton held just weeks ago.
"In just ten days from the Change to Win endorsement of Barack Obama, thousands of union volunteers were mobilized and devoted their time and energy to knock on tens of thousands of doors, make hundreds of thousands of phone calls and barnstorm worksites. Change to Win members support Sen. Obama as the candidate with the best vision and program to restore the American Dream for America's workers. He has instilled a new enthusiasm in the political process based on a campaign of hope rather than despair and made us believe that together we can make a difference.
"We strongly stand with Barack Obama and will continue our fight to help make him the next president of the United States. We will be in every primary and caucus state working to educate and mobilize our members to support the American Dream candidate, Barack Obama."
Change to Win and Lake Research Partners have been conducting a series of surveys on the American Dream over the past two years. In the latest American Dream poll, voters identified Barack Obama as the candidate with best vision to restore the American Dream.
