WASHINGTON, DC – Change to Win Executive Director Greg Tarpinian today announced that Chris Mather has joined the staff as its Political Director.

Mather brings nearly two decades of field and communications experience working in public and political advocacy. Most recently, she served as a Vice President at the American Association for Justice, formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. There she helped redefine and transform the organization’s mission as passionate defenders of justice within the nation’s legal system. Prior to that, as Midwest Press Secretary for the Democratic National Committee, Mather directed state-by-state strategies for direct mail, earned and paid media for candidates committed to working family issues across the heavily swing voter region.

In her new post, Mather will develop and coordinate an unprecedented grassroots mobilization program for the 2008 elections, powered by worker activists from the largest and most politically active unions in the country, representing 6 million members.

Mather’s background in political and campaign work is extensive. She managed several House and Senate congressional campaigns in Illinois and New Jersey. She built an aggressive $10 million effort to educate undecided voters in the 2000 election as Deputy Political Director for NARAL. She also helped develop a national network of activists for the American Nurses Association to raise awareness of the health care crisis.

“We are excited that someone with Chris Mather’s experience and passion has come on board to help expand workers’ voices on the issues that matter most in this election,” said Change to Win Chair Anna Burger. “Her proven track record will help ensure that working people are engaged in the 2008 elections as a way to restore the American Dream in the 21st century.”

Mather has also served as a consultant for politically active organizations over the course of several election cycles including the Progressive Majority, Campaign for America’s Future, Planned Parenthood, Democratic GAIN, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and German from the University of Michigan in 1991. Email: chris.mather@changetowin.org.
