It’s kind of appalling that seven weeks after President Obama nominated Hilda Solis for the office of Secretary of Labor, that office is still vacant — because obstructionist Senate Republicans are busy spreading misinformation and generally standing in the way of a vote.
More than 600,000 Americans lost their jobs in the last seven weeks. We need leadership at the Labor Department now more than any time in recent memory. But the department goes rudderless while a few Republican Senators play politics.
So to help put things in perspective, I’ve created a little site called FreeHilda.com where I’m compiling testimonials about Solis’ exemplary record of leadership on issues facing workers and the environment; providing links to actions you can take to support her nomination; and keeping a live timer of just how long the GOP has stalled this important nomination.
