Ciao to Chao

… hey hey hey… good bye…

Yes, the Bush Administration is staggering to its long-awaited end, and that means another ending — the end of Elaine Chao’s tenure as Secretary of Labor.

It’s a bittersweet moment, to be sure. On the “bitter” side, there’s her long record of using the Labor Department to reward big corporations and smack down workers. On the “sweet” side, there’s… well… OK, I’ve got nothin’. So it’s not particularly bittersweet after all.

So let’s send her off right! American Rights at Work has posted an online tool you can use to say “ciao” to Chao. If you’re not feeling creative, you can just hit “send” to send Elaine the following message:

Has it been eight years already? Where did the time go?

It seems like just yesterday you were spearheading the effort to reverse the ergonomics rule that would have protected thousands of America’s workers from injuries in the workplace.

We appreciate all your hard work, like putting in overtime to ensure that workers don’t get overtime pay.

We don’t know what we’ll do without you there to increase workers’ exposure to harmful toxins, or show your indifference to the wage gap.

Oh, and we didn’t take it personally when you said American workers need anger management skills.

It’s been quite a journey, thanks for the memories.

But CtW Connect readers are some of the most creative folks on the Net, so I know you can do even better than that! Turn your snark knob up to 11 and give Elaine the sendoff she deserves today.

Great post, Jason.

Goodbye to her and to Senator Bond, who announced today he won't run for reelection.
