Because Deregulating the Banks Worked Out So Well

As we consider the enormous damage wrought on our economy by the ideologues who insisted on rolling back common-sense regulation of the financial sector — ideologues like John McCain — it’s worth noting that they never wanted to just stop there.

Consider the health care market. If you’re like most working people, you know that our health care system is fundamentally and thoroughly broken. It leaves tens of millions uninsured, and most of those who have insurance worry constantly about losing it. Meanwhile, drug companies and HMOs rack up enormous profits.

So what is John McCain’s solution to all this? More deregulation! As he told Contingencies, the magazine of the American Academy of Actuaries, this month:

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

In other words: if you liked what John McCain did to the economy, you’ll love what he wants to do to health care.

We can’t afford four more years of clueless, out-of-touch leadership. Barack Obama drives that point home in a new ad:

It was President Clinton that deregulated the banks. It wasn't President Bush.

I really dislike this type of dishonesty in politics. This is another example of the whole problem with the political monopoly that the two major parties have brought us. Both the democrat and republican parties are corrupt and out of touch with the American public.

And it was President Clinton that brought us NAFTA too. The republican-democrat political system simply play off each other for political gain.

If you want real change, stop voting for these political monopolies and vote for a different party. There are other options out there. And the two major parties will definitely take note once the voting masses stop voting for either of them.
