Truth is the glue that holds government together. — Gerald Ford
A few days ago, I mentioned how big business is ready to spend whatever it takes to keep the Employee Free Choice Act from passing.
So where is all that money going? Part of it is going to pay for deceptive and misleading political attack ads smearing candidates who have stood up for workers’ rights — candidates like Al Franken.
Franken is the Democratic Farmer-Labor (DFL) candidate who’s running against incumbent Republican Senator Norm Coleman, and as a union member himself he’s a firm supporter of the Employee Free Choice Act and workers’ right to join together in unions. So he’s a prime target for the business lobby, who have been dumping money into the race in an attempt to help Coleman defeat Franken.
Well, now They Work For Us — a coalition dedicated to holding accountable members of Congress who abandon their constituents — has launched an ad campaign of their own, sticking up for candidates like Franken who are standing with workers in support of the Employee Free Choice Act. Here’s the ad they’re running right now in Minnesota:
Beyond Minnesota, They Work For Us is running ads in Maine, New Hampshire, Mississippi, Louisiana and Oregon in support of candidates who have pledged to help restore the rights of workers.
And if you want details about just how misleading the big business ads are, here’s a good report from Minneapolis TV station WCCO-TV dismantling the ads’ claims about the Employee Free Choice Act:
It’s good to see the truth getting out there! And if you want to call Al Franken and tell him you’re with him and to keep fighting the good fight, you can reach his campaign at (888) 908-2008.

Great work, Jason. If you want (and have the time), please feel free to cross-post this to UnionReview. Also, if you should happen to post this up on Kos, please let me know. I have been on Kos a lot lately trying to share this kind of information with the mostly progressive blogging crowd that might not have as much of a handle on labor as you do.
Again, great work, as always.
