There Are More Dunder-Mifflins Out There Than You Think

The Office

Ezra Klein has a great post up today showing how you much you can learn about the value of the Employee Free Choice Act just by watching The Office. As they say, read the whole thing.

Yeah, I remember the episode---we discussed it in one of the labor law classes I took. After we accounted for all the illegal steps taken by management, mostly threats, we tallied up the remedies that the employees would enjoy if they filed board charges. What an impressive number of letters would need to be posted! There were no real penalties, such as fines or jail time, for the fictional employer's illegal activities.

Here in the real world,we need the Employee Free Choice Act, if for no other reason than to make the process fair to the workers once again.
