Meet our next face of Employee Free Choice — Dr. Harold Appel of New York City:

I asked Dr. Appel why he supports the Employee Free Choice Act, and here’s his response:
I am a 66 year old physician who has been a Shop Steward in the Public Employees Federation and am now a Contract Administrator for the Doctors Council SEIU. I have, sadly, seen the labor movement shrink in both influence and size during the past few decades. We need to restore the ability of workers to organize that has been hampered by the politicized NLRB during this time period. We need to restore the imbalance in power between labor and management, between workers and the wealthy, that has grown dramatically during this period. Time and again I have seen union organizing efforts stall because of the present system. If our country is really a democracy, workers must be free to choose to join a union and to collectively fight for social justice. The Employee Free Choice Act would give them the chance.
