Workplace deaths in the U.S., 2007

If you had to guess what each of the dots on the map above represented, what would you guess?

Here's the answer: each dot represents a worker who was killed on the job in 2007.

And here's the even more tragic part: the map only has 10% of last year's reported workplace deaths on it.

The image above is taken from an interactive map put together by the House Education and Labor Committee to demonstrate the true scale of the safety problems workers face. You can click on any dot on the map and get details about the accident that claimed that worker's life. It's an important message, and this is a truly innovative way to help get it across.
