Well, we've come to the end of 2007 so it's a good time to look back. Here's a few of the moments that stand out in my mind...
- In May, the newly Democratic Congress passed the first increase in the Federal minimum wage in a decade, from $5.15/hour to $7.25.
- That same month, a delegation of leaders from CtW and its partner unions visited China to explore ways to build better jobs in both China and America in the new global economy.
- In September, we had our second national convention in Chicago, bringing together workers and leaders from across the CtW family. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards joined us to share their thoughts on how to restore the American Dream.
- Also in September, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) issued an unprecedented slate of anti-worker decisions. We've been fighting back, launching an ad campaign to bring attention to how broken the NLRB has become and rallying workers across the country in protest. (You can still join in this effort -- sign our petition condemning the Bush Board.)
- Workers from Change to Win unions were instrumental in electing pro-worker candidates in Kentucky in November.
- In December, Feliza Ryland, a hospitality worker and UNITE HERE member, testified before a Congressional hearing about the injustice the broken NLRB system brings to the lives of workers across America.
- And throughout the year, we continued our research into the state of the American Dream, releasing three new surveys investigating how workers, voters in general, and uncommitted "swing" voters see the future of the Dream.
And now, on to 2008!
