Any five year-old can tell you that there is only one individual out there who could really make “The World on Time,” delivering millions of packages overnight all by himself – Santa Claus.
But FedEx would have you believe they’re pulling off this same miracle 365 days a year with NO Employees.
FedEx drivers are misclassified as independent contractors when they should be employees and afforded all the rights of employees. The courts say so. The NLRB says so. Still, FedEx insists on misclassifying their drivers as independent contractors and denying them their basic rights.
A new joint report from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR) and American Rights at Work, uses worker interviews and cases filed against FedEx to meticulously detail how the $33 billion delivery giant is circumventing federal anti-discrimination laws, avoiding payment of millions of dollars in benefits to 15,000 FedEx Ground drivers, and hindering workers’ rights to form unions.
Workers who are classified as "employees" have a legally protected right to join a union; but under anti-trust law, workers who are independent contractors are prohibited from joining a union. Misclassifying full-time workers as independent contractors, therefore, allows corporations to prevent their workers from being able to exercise their rights. A FedEx Ground driver interviewed in the report, Cathy Curran, said, “We thought a union would give us the chance to really improve working conditions at the company. But FedEx told us that we would never be able to vote on a union because we were independent contractors.”

Along with the fact that they are also building a new sorting facility in the Bronx, NY , using subcontractors who do not employ area people and do not pay the area standard wages . FedEX is very anti-employee , anti-union and anti-American dream .

In Troutdale, Oregon, east of Portland, the city council created an enterprise zone so that FedEx can move its Portland distribution hub east — and not pay taxes for five years!

To whom it may concern:
As an independent business man who contracts with FedEx Ground I am here to tell you that you and your Teamsters Union lies will not stop us from growing and taking market share. I am not an employee of FedEx but I am an Independent owner operator. The opportunities that contracting with FedEx Ground brings are far greater than anything that the teamsters could ever dream of. Contracting with FedEx Ground has given me the American Dream of owning my own business with my own trucks, and my own employees. I'm taking care of my routes and customers better than any UPS driver ever could. That is why we will continue to take more market share. The happier we can make our customers the better our busines will be. The sky is the limit when it comes to how much my business can grow. Try doing that as part of the Teamsters Union.
