CtW Convention 2007: Hillary Rodham Clinton

Senator and Presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) was scheduled to address the 2007 Convention, but unfortunately travel difficulties left her stuck at the airport in Little Rock. Thankfully, though, she was able to join us by telephone to share her thoughts and take questions from the delegates.

Here's the video:

Sen. Clinton says all the right things about health care reform. But what politicians say and what they do after being elected are very often two different things. If she gets the Dem. nomination I will vote for her, but I do not look forward to hearing her voice for years on end. Someone needs to give this woman some voice training. She has an unpleasant voice. Monotone, stressed sounding, harsh. For personality, I much prefer John Edwards.

I'm sure her 'intentions' are good, but Senator Clinton's track record and personal values leave me questioning her integrity and ability to lead and not just play the political'game. I wouldn't vote for her if she were the only Democrat running. Hope this doesn't offend anyone, just my truthful opinion. GO BARRACK!

Any of these candidates will be an improvement over the Edwin P Newman look alike we now have in the white house. however, my gut tells me that Edwards is the best one for the job. Hillary and Biden have powerful seats in congress and have done a lot to help labor. Obama is young and inexperienced. Washington will eat him up.

If Hillary gets the nomination I will support her. She's responsible for bringing the healthcare debate to the forefront of the issue's most needed today. The american way of life is ever eroding ... no healthcare, no voice, no liberties and no money to support a corrupt monetary system. She (Hillary) deserves to be listened to and deserves our support. EFCA is another piece of legislation that truly needs attention ... but much harder legislation to pass than healthcare. If we get either one of these pieces of legislation passed ... with hope and prayer ... then we all win as workers. If not, then it's another sad downward "race to the bottom" reality. Our way of life in this country has been threatened by constant corporate trends that do nothing to support a quality of life for anybody but the protection of the wealthy in this country. It's time for "Change To Win."

Workers assess the words.

CNA: Clinton Health Care Plan Just Throws More People Under Wheels Of Insurance Industry - 09/20/07
By Doug Cunningham

The California Nurses Association says Senator Hillary Clinton’s health care plan just throws more people under the wheels of the health insurance system without fixing the fundamental problem – an out of control industry profiting off pain and illness with unaffordable health care. Geri Jenkins is on the CNA’s President’s Council.

[Jenkins]: “Hillary Clinton is the number one recipient of health care and pharmaceutical industry dollars of all the members of Congress. So I think that speaks volumes to why the system is the way it is that she's proposing."

Jenkins says the California Nurses Association wants a national single payer universal health care system – essentially an expansion of Medicare covering everyone. A New York Times CBS poll this year found that 64%
of Americans want the federal government to guarantee health insurance for all Americans, and 60% would pay higher taxes to do it. So if we the people want it, why can’t we get it?

[Jenkins 2]: “You don't see that translate into legislation because our members of our legislature and elected officials have pretty much been bought off by the industry. There shouldn't be money made on people's lives, whether people live or die coming down to some corporation's bottom line. And that's what happens with the insurance industry and their controlling the system."

Hillary is my choice as our leader for the future of this country. This Woman has the where with all to stand up and be counted, she knows where the bear sh##s in the woods. I trust she will drive forward the changes we need as a nation to move this democracy forward. The current admistration is as close to any form of communisim that as a young man I was tought to fear. This woman will give us back our country and the hopes of the American Dream, our freedom to agree or disagree, the freedom to make the changes nessesary for our lives to be all they can be. Under her leadership nations around the world will again be proud to stand with us in the fight against the tyranny and terrorists that plague our live today. Hillary has my vote, and that of all I can muster to help her.

Hillary's top adviser Mark Penn represents union busters ... and Blackwater: Please take a look at this diary from Markos at Daily Kos:
Mark Penn holds court in the HIllary camp -- her pollster and messaging guru. We know about his anti-union work, which -- by the way -- has received scant critiques from unions:

The firm of which Mark Penn remains president, Burson Marsteller, has raised eyebrows for straying a bit from core Democratic Party issues, with its involvement in an anti-union campaign and for representing a leading, troubled subprime lender. But...Blackwater!? "Burson-Marsteller was brought aboard by the Washington law firms representing Blackwater," the AP reports in a story about the difficulty of defending the military contractor. Penn emails that the AP story is wrong, and that Burson is no longer involved in the case. "It was a temporary assignment based on a relationship that has concluded. Burson is correcting this," he writes.
