Blogging LIVE! From the CtW Convention in Chicago. Well, Kind Of

OK, it's not really live. We run a lean operation here, so I was too busy helping out with the convention itself to have much time to blog it as things were happening. But it's only been about ten minutes since we wrapped, so that's not too far from live, right?

In case you're wondering what I'm talking about, we had our second biennial convention today in Chicago, bringing together leaders and activists from across the Change to Win family to review our progress over the last two years, and set the direction for the next two.

Joining us in this were three of the Democratic candidates for President. Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards joined us in person; Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton wanted to as well, but unfortunately air travel complications had her grounded in Little Rock, so she joined us by telephone instead. All three candidates gave inspiring presentations on what they think the future holds for the American Dream -- and what they want to do to protect it.

We'll have more in-depth reporting on what they said soon, as well as other news from the convention. In the meantime, here's some photos from Sen. Obama's and Sen. Edwards' speeches, courtesy of photographer Bill Burke, who's been with us all day:

Neither of these guys or Hillary are the answer. A junior senator with no experience and a air head who hasn't got a clue. Is it so hard to find REAL candidates with real solutions? As a democrat I will NOT be voting for ANY of the 3 democratic contenders.

I'm not sure but I pretty confident the crack jeads have hijacked my party.

Plus I want to see if ANY non towing the party line comments are posted...my money says their not

I attended the CTW convention and was completely impressed with the presenters, the candidates, and most importantly the commitment of the seven unions to work together to build a better labor movement and a better America. It was inspiring!
Regarding "brother" Hanna's earlier post, Hillary an "Air Head?" Barack has "no experience?" Perhaps he needs to step back and listen to the candidates a little more closely and reassess his position. I too am a proud Democrat and would be prouder still to support any of the aformentioned candidiates. We have the unique opportunity to make history here but the most important thing is get change in the oval office ASAP!!!!

Regarding the September convention, for us member/activists there should be a story on who attended and what happened. It should include what was voted on, and what the vote was. For the presidential candidates there should be a report of what the vote was for each of the candidates, and how many votes and what percentage was required for an endorsement. We want news.

Walter,

You read my mind :-)

I've got the full text of the two resolutions that were passed at the convention -- it's going to be posted shortly.

As to endorsements -- other than the Carpenters (who endorsed Edwards), all the CtW affiliates are still in the middle of their own endorsement processes, so it'd be premature for us to start thinking about a Change to Win endorsement. If there's consensus among the affiliates for a single candidate, then that discussion will happen. Make sense?
