Economic Anxiety and the American Dream

Change to Win led a Brookings Institution panel today titled Economic Anxiety and the American Dream. The discussion centered on the Working American Dream Agenda survey, conducted by Lake Research Partners on behalf of Change to Win.

Greg Tarpinian, Executive Director of Change to Win, joined Celinda Lake, President of Lake Research Partners; Elisabeth Jacobs, a research fellow at Brookings; and Jim Kessler of Third Way for a spirited debate on possible solutions to alleviate America's anxiety. The event was moderated by Brookings senior fellow and Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne, Jr.

Greg Tarpinian, Executive Director of Change to Win, emphasized the need for collective action in the workplace, community and political sphere. "Working people are upset about the lack of access to the prosperity that is the fruits of their labor. They're working very hard and not getting ahead," said Tarpinian. "Collective action is the answer."

  • Seventy-four percent say workers uniting in the workplace can help achieve the American Dream.
  • Sixty-nine percent say businesses should work together with unions to keep good-paying jobs in America.
