No corporation should cut corners on worker safety. Cintas Corp. did just that and it may have cost a man his life.
Eleazar Torres-Gomez was killed on the job at an industrial laundry facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was apparently dragged inside an industrial dryer by a robotic conveyor belt. As it turns out, Cintas ignored regulations on safety guards that could have prevented this tragedy.
Take Action: Tell your Members of Congress to co-sponsor the Protecting America's Workers Act
Every day in America, millions of workers face the reality that they too could be injured or killed on the job.
- 5,700 workers were killed on the job in 2005.
- 4.2 million private-sector workers suffered injuries in the workplace in 2005.
- 50,000 to 60,000 workers die each year from occupational diseases.
The Protecting America's Workers Act (S. 1244/H.R. 2049) would strengthen enforcement of workplace health and safety regulations to help ensure that no worker's family has to suffer a loss like the one the Torres-Gomez family suffered.
A few minutes of your day could help prevent a serious injury…or even save a life!
