Sixty-four percent of Americans now say the government should guarantee quality affordable health care for all, according to the latest NY Times/CBS News Poll.
The growing consensus means health care will be the top domestic agenda issue in the 2008 election.
But what’s even more notable is what people are willing to sacrifice to ensure guaranteed health care, like paying more in taxes. Eight in 10 said they thought it was more important to provide universal access to health insurance than to extend the tax cuts of recent years. That indicates the priorities of most Americans are different than those of the Bush Administration.
