The House of Representatives took an important step towards helping 13 million workers get a raise, a top priority they took up at the start of the new session. But the much needed increase in the federal minimum wage still faces a hurdle in the Senate, which will likely consider a similar bill – along with some tax cuts for businesses.

Change to Win Chair Anna Burger praised representatives from both parties for passing a bill free of tax cuts and other perks and urged the Senate to do the same. “There is no reason that the incomes of the poorest Americans should be held hostage to favors being sought by special interests,” she said.
